HVAC Installation & Replacement in Hampton Roads

Replacing a heating or cooling system is one of the larger purchases a homeowner makes, and the choices can feel like a maze. Tango Bravo Mechanical installs and replaces residential systems in Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake. The first decision is what kind of system you want, and the rest follows.

Which Path Fits Your Home?

A heat pump on its own

One outdoor unit heats and cools with electricity. Hampton Roads winters are usually mild enough for a heat pump to carry most of the heating load, with auxiliary heat for the coldest nights. This is a common choice here. Heat pump installation and replacement covers sizing, equipment choices, and cost.

An air conditioner with a separate heating source

The outdoor unit cools, and the home heats with a furnace or with electric heat strips in the air handler. A good fit when you already have a newer furnace worth keeping. AC installation and replacement covers it, with particular attention to humidity control.

A furnace, with or without a new cooling system

Covered in the next section, since furnace replacement has its own questions about fuel, efficiency, and safety.

A ductless system

For an addition, a sunroom, or a home without ductwork, a ductless system heats and cools individual rooms.

Whichever path you take, the details that affect comfort most in this climate are correct sizing and humidity control, and they matter more than chasing the highest efficiency number on the brochure.

When Should You Replace Your Furnace?

A furnace is usually due for replacement when it is aging, needs frequent repairs, has a safety finding, or no longer heats the house evenly. A cracked heat exchanger on a gas furnace is the clearest case, because it can allow combustion gases into the air the furnace circulates. Depending on the furnace’s age and warranty, options usually include replacing the heat exchanger or replacing the furnace. Rising heating bills, rooms that never warm up, and repeated no-heat calls on cold nights are other signs that a furnace is near the end of its useful life.

We replace gas and electric furnaces. Gas furnaces are rated by AFUE, which measures how much of the fuel becomes usable heat, so a higher AFUE means less wasted gas. Electric furnaces convert nearly all of their energy into heat, but electricity usually costs more per unit of heat than gas. The right choice depends on what fuel your home already has and what you pay for it.

A furnace replacement is also a good moment to consider a different setup. Some homeowners replace a furnace and an older AC together with a heat pump, while others keep a gas furnace alongside a new heat pump so the heat pump runs most of the year and the furnace handles the coldest nights. Whatever you choose, the furnace has to be sized for the house and vented correctly.

If your furnace might still be repairable, start with a furnace repair visit. If you are thinking about switching to a heat pump, see heat pump installation.

How Do You Know It Is Time?

It is usually time when repairs are frequent or expensive, and the system is old enough that another repair will not buy many more good years. Other signs include rising energy bills and a house that stays humid or heats and cools unevenly. Older cooling systems that use R-22 can still be serviced with available R-22, but a leak on one can push the repair cost high enough that replacement deserves a look. Compare the actual quotes. If you are not ready to replace, our HVAC repair team can tell you whether a repair makes more sense.

What Affects the Cost of a New System?

The type of equipment, its size and efficiency, and the work the house needs to support it. Ductwork repairs, electrical updates, gas line or venting changes, and access to the equipment locations all affect the final price. The installation quote is free, no matter which path you are considering. Request yours here.

What Does the Process Look Like?

A replacement should start with the house, not the old equipment: its size, layout, insulation, and existing ductwork. What happens from there depends on the system you choose. The heat pump and AC pages cover what to expect and what to ask about for each.

What Warranties Come With a New System?

New equipment carries a manufacturer’s warranty, and many manufacturers require registration after installation to activate full coverage. Warranty coverage comes with a new system, and Tango Bravo Mechanical stands behind the quality of its work. Ask what is covered before you sign. Regular maintenance helps protect the equipment and the warranty, and our maintenance plans include two visits a year.
